July 2017 Grand Canyon Caverns Newsletter

Dear Friends of the Caverns,

Between large gatherings, warm and invigorating mornings, and afternoon thundershowers… there is no doubt it is summer time! This month I wanted to highlight three major projects that have been underway, and are either ready or close enough to completion that you can make your reservations now to come enjoy them. The first two – the Rodeo Ring and the Motel pool – have gotten much needed makeovers and are already being enjoyed this summer. The third project – the brand new, deep underground cave restaurant, the “Cavern Grotto” – is just about finished and is already receiving major publicity, including some international recognition! Please read more about these projects below and be sure to make your reservations now to come enjoy them!

Sincerely,
John McEnulty

  • RODEO ARENA

This past weekend the "Grand Canyon Caverns Cowboy Challenge" was held at the Grand Canyon Caverns Rodeo. This event was possible because of the help and hard work of seasoned Cowboy Joe Way and his wife Dani. They have helped to rejuvenated the rodeo arena and grounds, breathing some much-needed new life into it. A full schedule of future activities, including Rodeos, Roping, Cowboy Action Shooting, a 12-year-old & under event, and a Cattle Drive are being planned. The Grand Canyon Caverns offers a sincere "thank you" to Joe and Dani for their renovation help, organizing new activities, and enthusiasm!

  • CAVERN GROTTO RESTAURANT

The Grand Canyon Cavern’s restaurant has been officially named the “Cavern Grotto”! The dinning platform, which has a spectacular view overlooking one of the largest caves, is just about finished and will begin “test” dinning at the end of July. In developing the locale, we mastered some logistical issues – focusing on safely and swiftly getting food and drinks delivered from the main restaurant that sits above the caverns, to the Cavern Grotto, 200 feet below ground. You must come visit us to find out how it’s being done! The food will include a full dinner menu, dessert, beer and wine at an all-inclusive price. Grand opening will be mid-August.

  • POOL

With these hot summer days, we are delighted to announce we have finished a complete restoration of the Motel pool. A new passive heating system that maintains the water at a comfortable temperature was installed, the pool deck was refinished, and the pump room totally redone. The pool was a bit unreliable at times last year, so you will enjoy the drastic change, and love taking a dip in it after a long hike into the canyon or a day exploring the caverns.
